A diary for our son, by Joe and Andrea DeRouen

Today is October 20th, and Fletcher's birthday is just three short days away. He keeps wanting all his presents now, of course. But he'll just have to wait.

I have been quite delinquent in updating Fletcher's diary. To be fair, I'm not sure who reads it. Fletcher is growing by leaps and bounds. He is around 43 pounds and just under 40 inches tall. We'll get something official at his three-year appointment a few days after his birthday.

I think Fletcher likes being in Arkansas. Some days though he says, "I don't like this house. I want our other house." But he won't give me a concrete reason. I think he just likes to assert his opinions. The other night I was complaing how messy the house was and very exasperatedly, I said, "I hate this house." Fletcher turned to me and said, "I like this house. It's a very nice house." So, he can complain, but ultimately, he really likes it.

He has become so proficient on his little bicycle (with training wheels) and mostly enjoys riding around the house, in circles around the couch. His preferred outfit for this is a diaper and barefeet.

Fletcher talks almost the entire time he's awake. We are learning lots about his internal workings. He likes to pretend things are after him, usually ostriches. It's a fun game to run to me or Joe and say, "Save me." It really is pretty funny.
