Fletcher Augustus DeRouen

A diary for our son, by Joe and Andrea DeRouen

Tuesday, September 23, 2003

Today Fletcher is 23 months old. Only one month until his birthday. He woke this morning roaring like a tiger and talking about his boppy (his favorite u-shaped pillow). He resisted getting dressed and really wanted to stay in bed to play with Joe and I but unfortunately, I had to go to work.

We took Fletcher to McDonald's for lunch on Sunday (his favorite) and then let him play on their enclosed playground. They have really tall towers that go up to habitrail-like tubes and then to slides. He followed another child up the tower, through the tubes and down the slide. Well actually, I think the first time, he climbed up the slide and then through the tubes. Regardless, it was strange to see his little feet showing through a yellow tube about 15 feet in the air. I think he's a bit of a daredevil.

We look forward to his big 2.

Fletcher and I went to the Cottonwood Park in Richardson this last Tuesday and then again Thursday, staying well over an hour both times. We had a lot of fun, and he got to play with other little kids his age while I was able to talk to other stay-at-home moms and dads.

Fletcher fed the ducks and squirrels, went down various slides, and in general ran around like a lunatic. We're going to try to go at least twice a week from now on, weather permitting.

Fletcher is fast approaching his second birthday. He seems to be so tall and he went to the doctor last Friday and weighs around 32 pounds. Amazing considering he still lives on crackers, cookies, and the occasional chicken nugget.

He is still improving in his speech. One of his favorite books, Hickory Dickory has a line that says "The mouse found a swing in the clock, Tick Tock..." and if you say that, he will finish the phrase with "rock, rock."

We took Fletcher to a playground at Valley View mall on Saturday and he ran around gleefully for more than 30 minutes, playing with a little girl around his age. They chased each other under and over all of the soft sculptures that make up the playground (it looks like a cartoon campsite). He had a great time
