Fletcher Augustus DeRouen

A diary for our son, by Joe and Andrea DeRouen

Wednesday, January 23, 2002

Today is Fletcher's three month birthday and, right on schedule, he started taking notice of his hands today. He stares at his fists as though he's trying to figure out just exactly what they are. He also intently watches his feet, and has also started gazing at his shirt, as well as chewing on it. Babies are amazing!

Who says that babies sleep 16 to 20 hours a day? Ours sure doesn't! He sleeps maybe eight or ten hours a day, tops. At least that's what it seems like. Regardless, the doctor says that the 16-20 thing is just an average, which means some babies sleep less and some babies sleep more. (Like what? 24??) Still, asleep or awake, he's a precious little baby and we love him very much. And, in keeping with that thought, I just added a bunch of new photos to the website. Enjoy!

I haven't written much here as of late because I've been struggling through a sinus infection. (Ugh!) We did take a few new pictures of Fletch, though, and I just posted them to the website. Our little boy gets cuter (is that a word?) and cuter as the days go by! He's a beautiful little light in our lives, an absolute treasure, and we love him dearly.

2002 is here! Well, okay, it actually arrived two days ago, but this is the first chance I've had to update the diary. 2001 was definitely a great year as it brought Fletcher into our lives and that overshadows absolutely everything else. I'm looking forward to continuing to get to know my son in the coming year!
